Meeting held at Hancock Bank in Gulfport
November 8th from 4 to 5 pm
There were roughly 25 people in attendance.
George Schloegel, Chairman of Hancock Holding, spoke to the committee regarding Transportation Policy and the impact that transportation infrastructure has on the Gulf Coast. Schloegel also stressed the importance of community involvement and leadership.
Other agenda items:
The group expressed an interest in learning more about better land use and zoning practices. Ron and I will look to bring in a speaker on the issue.
The Policy and Government Committee is trying to host two large events per year. The first was the recent political forum, which was held in October.
There was an expressed interest in trying to host another larger event in the Spring. Some suggestions included:
- Legislative roundtable
- Mayor’s forum (question and answer session)
Further discussion regarding the above mentioned will take place at our December meeting.
There was also some interest in pursuing two other items -- Voter Education/Registration, Legislative Advocacy
The next meeting will be held the first Thursday in December from 4 to 5 pm. The location is yet to be determined.
