Our mission:  Equipping young professionals to be Coast community leaders by imparting vision, knowledge, confidence, and excellence.

The LPD committee is working to establish a mentoring program that will give CYP members an opportunity to gain insight from local business leaders.  Additionally, we are using the survey responses we received from local business leaders on the skills and traits they look for when hiring young professionals to help prepare a Leadership Development Track for CYP members.  We are in the process of preparing a survey to be sent to current business leaders.  Our goal is to create two high quality programs that meet the mentoring and leadership development needs of CYP members.

Holiday Outreach for Elderly Long-Term Care Residents – The LDP committee is currently partnering with the Service Learning committee to coordinate a CYP Holiday Senior Outreach.  We will be collecting needed items for nursing home residents at the December CYP social, and the Coast Chamber has graciously offered to be a drop-off site for those who cannot attend the social.  These personal items will be assembled into care packages and delivered to the nursing home residents by CYP volunteers.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Katie Sandoz at katies@mscoastchamber.com .

 
Mentoring – Linda Watts, Coast Division Manager for Mississippi Power has been an invaluable resource in the planning of our mentoring project.  She was the guest speaker at our committee meeting in October and has since offered her input on mentoring from a business leader’s perspective.  Gretchen David is leading the development of the CYP as mentees program.  She has scheduled a meeting for the mentoring sub-committee at Biloxi Regional Medical Center on November 29 at Biloxi Regional Medical Center at 5:00.  For more information, please contact Gretchen at Gretchendavid1@mac.com .

Leadership Development Track – The focus of this program is to design a leadership track of programs and courses with certificates awarded after completion of certain requirements.  For example, one certificate would be awarded after completion of several courses in Leadership.  Another certificate would be awarded based on completion of HR Management classes.  The plan is to partner with current Workforce Development program to offer classes that appeal to CYP members who are looking to advance their careers.  Jeffrey Brewer is leading this effort.
